The electric vehicle revolution, already giving way to advances in autonomous driving, has been fast upon us for some time. And we, for one – or, for several – at Volkswagen of Fort Myers welcome this future, as it's sure to bring with it a new fleet of Volkswagen electric vehicles. In fact, we can look forward to seeing some amazing strides in the next few years, with full production, beginning in 2020, of the Volkswagen I.D. CROZZ electric crossover utility vehicle.

Surely, Volkswagen will foray into the segment with design elements to capture attention, I.D. CROZZ promising SUV styling blended with coupe elegance, its sharp hood offering up an image of quite the muscular cut. Striking fenders are set to give way to contoured wheel arches approaching a sports-car aesthetic, accented, true enough, by integrated front-section Volkswagen signature electric mobility lighting. And with a roof to evince agility, augmented by a body-color stripe bordering both sides, understated supports, a tapered D-pillar and low-key door frames that form near-invisible B and C pillars for a seamless look, I.D. CROZZ will surely look the part as befits our digital age. But under the hood as well as inside the cabin, the CUV goes an extra mile entirely.

I.D. CROZZ bases its prowess on Volkswagen's Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) structure, comprising a long wheelbase, compact powertrain components and an under-floor battery, complete with roomy "Open Space" interior architecture comparable in size to the all-new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan, coming soon. Factor in an impressive 302 horsepower, top speed of 112 mph – blistering for an electric vehicle, and a long-haul range of 311 miles on the New European Driving Cycle, and you've got the makings of future road trips and extended vacations alike, buttressed by the peace of mind of excellent fuel efficiency. The I.D. CROZZ battery even boasts charging up to 80 percent in as little as 30 minutes using a prospective 150-kilowatt DC fast charger.

And with an augmented reality head-up display, Active Info Display, infotainment tablet, and door panel controls refashioning the definition of intuitive cockpit-located driver-centrism, the travel experience appears to be as smoothly design-lined as I.D. CROZZ's exterior. I.D. Pilot mode is set to add a layer of ease of use, enabling autonomous driving in a snap.
